This collection mainly consists of newspaper clippings and photographs. There are also several letters and some miscellaneous items. These materials are related either to Maher's athletic efforts at Fortier and Loyola or to his life in the military.

Biographical or Historical Information
Albert Clinton Maher was born in 1917 in New Orleans and grew up in that city's uptown area. Maher attended Alcee Fortier High School, where he played football. He graduated from high school in 1935. He then attended Loyola University in New Orleans, where he played four years on the football team and also boxed and played basketball. In 1939 he graduated from Loyola. In 1941 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and attended flight school in Corpus Christi, Texas. After earning his wings in February 1942, he was stationed on the west coast. On May 15, 1942 he died in a plane crash at sea while on patrol duty near Humboldt Bay, California.
