This collection includes music and memorabilia related to Charles Sens’ career as a performer in New Orleans and collected performing arts programs and ephemera primarily from New York, Boston, and Washington DC. Materials were collected and transferred to Special Collections & Archives by Bob Grosse.

Biographical or Historical Information
Charles Lee Sens Jr. was born in 1933 and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. He graduated from Loyola University New Orleans in 1956 with a Bachelor of Music degree. Sens had a distinguished career as a singer, dancer, and composer before undertaking a second career as a librarian in the Music Division of the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. Sens died August 23, 2004, in Washington DC.

Charles Sens also left his large collection of opera recordings and many unique items which have been integrated into the circulating collection, as well as an endowment to enhance the collection over time, to the Monroe Library.
