Scope and Contents

The Hurricane Katrina Oral History Collection contains interviews with 40 individuals. Interviews were videotaped to mini-DV and audio recorded to tape and mini-tape. For access purposes, the videos and audio recordings were digitized and are available on DVD and CD. Transcripts are available for nine of the interviews. There are also nine produced “final project” DVDs. All materials were produced in the spring of 2006, and all interviews were conducted in New Orleans.

Conditions Governing Access

The first three series in the collection are open for research use. No duplications of any materials in the collection are allowed. Interviews lacking signed informed consent forms are located in the fourth series and are closed to researchers.

Physical rights are retained by the J. Edgar and Louis S. Monroe Library, Loyola University New Orleans. Copyright is retained in accordance with U.S. copyright laws.

Biographical or Historical Information

In the spring of 2006, Loyola professor Jaqueline Woodfork’s students interviewed New Orleans community members about their experiences during and after Hurricane Katrina, which devastated the Gulf Coast in August 2005.

The collection is arranged in four series. DVDs and CDs of interviews, transcripts, and final student projects are arranged alphabetically by student’s last name. Closed collection materials are arranged alphabetically by interviewee’s last name and are comprised of interviews that do not have consent forms and are closed to researchers.
